Himeee’s (Makiko Tanaka) devout musical philosophy is a way of life, an artful fusion of the primitive and the futuristic that takes listeners on a sensual voyage through the emotional spectrum. Her explosive sonic landscapes are masterfully designed, shaped by her unique journey through music, dance, and culture.

Hailing from Osaka, Japan, Himeee’s deep connection to music began at the age of three, learning piano and immersing herself in her father’s vast avant-garde jazz collection. Her adolescence was marked by a natural shift from performer to selector, embracing DJing while organizing parties and cultivating a profound relationship with dance music culture.
 

Himeee began her DJ career in 2008 at Japonica Music Store in Kyoto, curating Sunday afternoon sessions that blended ambient, soul-jazz, and deep house with crossover electronic sounds. She quickly made a mark in Kyoto's music scene by co-organizing events that celebrated the Jubilee year between Kyoto and Paris, hosting artists such as I:Cube, DJ Mehdi, and Birdy Nam Nam at diverse venues, including Club Metro, the Eiunin Buddhist temple, and the artist residency Villa Kujoyama. She later became a resident DJ at Krauss in Osaka, a renowned party series that showcased emerging international minimal talents, including Maayan Nidam, Onur Özer, Italoboyz, Sleeparchive, and Troy Pierce.

After countless parties and performances across Japan, Himeee relocated to Berlin in 2014, eventually settling in Amsterdam, where her creativity flourishes as both a DJ and a music producer. Her extensive experience and diverse background continue to nourish her craft, allowing her to explore sound design and production with authenticity and innovation.
 

Beyond her musical endeavors, Himeee is a multidisciplinary artist and holistic advocate. A former cultural journalist for a daily newspaper, she now contributes as a world reporter for Veggy, Japan’s pioneering vegan magazine. Her work spans the realms of music, writing, and holistic healing—integrating veganism, macrobiotics, astrology, sound healing (Acutonics®), fermentation, natural farming, and Eastern philosophy.

Himeee holds a Bachelor’s degree in Educational Anthropology and Music Psychology from Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, further enriching her unique perspective as a creative force in the global music and wellness communities.
